All the accessories which come in the box are made of high-quality material. One thing that I really liked is that the USB charger has two output ports so you can charge your phone and use the cam at the same time. Overall, the packaging quality is pretty good and it comes with all the necessary accessories in the box.

The 70mai Dash Cam Pro looks really compact and small even though it comes with a screen which previous last generation model didn’t have. It’s necessary for a Dashcam to be compact as it will not interfere with the visibility while driving. Apart from that, the build quality is quite good as well. The cam is made of black matte plastic which looks really premium for the price.
Another thing which is impressive is how lightweight it is. Even though it packs a screen, the cam only weighs around 70 grams which is on-par with the previous generation model. Not only the body is lightweight and sturdy, but it can also work in a temperature range of -10 to 60 Deg.C which is impressive and necessary as well. It’ necessary because the Dash Cam will be attached to the windscreen and the temperature can get really high due to direct sunlight. Hence, 70mai Pro ensures proper working at high temperature as well.
It has the following dimension:3.44 x 2.09 x 0.71 inches.
On the front, there is an LCD screen which has a resolution of 320x240 pixels. It’s an IPS LCD screen which ensures great viewing angles making it really helpful. Just below the screen. There are 4 keys also known as the Function buttons, each one having a function of its own which we will discuss later. There is an LED indicator on the left camera portion of the screen and behind it is the camera whose position can be tilted for a better view. The power button is located at the bottom and the charging port along with a Micro SD card slot is located on the right. On the back, there is a speaker and a plastic lid which is removable, protecting the pins below it which are for connecting other mods. Overall, the build quality and the design is surprisingly amazing for the price.
Display and Controls
One of the biggest upgrades is the introduction of the 2-inch IPS LCD screen which wasn’t available of the last gen 70mai. Even though the screen looks small, it’s quite useful and comes really handy while using the Dash Cam. For starters, it shows everything clearly which appears in the 140 degrees field-of-view of the camera. Since it has a 320x240 pixel resolution, the picture quality is quite good along with great viewing angles which makes it easy to see what’s on the screen without changing your position while driving.
Although the screen doesn’t support touch input, there are four function buttons which makes it simple to operate the screen. You can access settings, Main Menu, Gallery or navigate through the UI using these buttons which feels smooth. Apart from the keys, there are certain voice commands which allows you to control the camera without touching it. All you gotta do is say the Voice commands like “Take a Picture” or “Turn Off the Screen” and the 70mai Dash Cam Pro will perform the stated action ASAP.
Installing the Xiaomi 70mai Dash Cam Pro is quite easy. All you need to do is follow the simple steps given below
● The first thing you need to remember is to install the dash cam in a location which provides maximum road coverage.
● Next, peel off the Electrostatic film and apply it on the windscreen where you want to place the dash cam.
● Remove the protective layer which is present on the back side of the cam and press it tightly against the electrostatic film on the windscreen.
● Now for the power supply, the 70mai Dash Cam Pro gets its power from Cigarette Lighter port. Insert the adapter which comes with the dash cam in the port and connects it to the dash cam using the power cable and fix it along the sides of the windshield for a clean installation.
● Insert a Clash 10 memory card in the dash cam so it can record videos. Remember to use a memory card of Class 10 16GB to 64GB and format it through the format SD card option in the dash cam menu.
Talking about the mobile application, you can download it by scanning the barcode which appears on the screen of the dash cam when you boot it for the first time. Otherwise, you can download it by visiting the official website. The app is available for both Android (4.1 or above) and iOS (8 or above) devices which makes it convenient. Once installed, open the app and choose the 70mai Dash Cam Pro from the available options. The app will now try to connect with cam’s WIFI, check the user manual for the default pin. Once connected, you can check all the record videos or photos directly on your phone. You can also download these pictures or videos and store them locally on your smartphone. Other things that the app can do is change the settings, update the firmware, provide a live view of the camera feed etc.
Performance and Usability
The Xiaomi 70mai Dash Cam Pro comes equipped with a 5-megapixel Sony IMX335 sensor which can record videos at a resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. However, you can drop the resolution to 1440p or 1080p as well in order to save more videos on the memory card. The Dashcam has a 140 degrees field-of-view which is plenty enough to record everything even on the widest roads.
Talking about the quality, the images captured or video recorded during the day are highly detailed and looks great. The 140 FOV records almost everything on the highways which is necessary for a dash cam. Also, it comes with a special Defog technology which reduces the fog using some special algorithm providing a clear image of what’s in the front. Coming to the night, the 70mai Pro comes with Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) to record clear videos during the night. Although the videos recorded at night aren’t as impressive as the videos recorded during the day but they are much better in comparison to any other dash cam in this price range.
Similar to the 70mai, the new 70mai Pro records videos in a 1-minute loop and keeps overriding on the previous footage. However, you can manually start recording an Emergency video which will not be deleted, otherwise, the camera automatically saves the video when a collision is detected. Another feature of the dash cam is that, if the car is parked and a collision happens, the dash cam will record the video and show you an alert the next time you turn ON the dash cam. This feature utilizes the 500mAh battery inside.
The 70mai Dash Cam Pro supports Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) system which provides features like forward collision detection or real-time lane change alert. However, this feature does require a GPS module installed in the card, otherwise, turning the feature ON will show “GPS module not detected” error.
In the previous 70mai review, I recommended to every car owner due to its features and low price. The new 70mai Dash Cam Pro is no doubt a better version since it comes loaded with great features. For starters, it comes with a screen which the previous model didn’t have which makes it much easier to interact with the dash cam. Also, it comes with a better 5-Megapixel sensor which supports wide dynamic range recording clear videos during the night as well. Other great feature includes Defog technology, support for voice commands, 140 degrees FOV and much more making the 70mai Dash Cam Pro an undeniable deal for the price.
