Introduction:

Up until a few years ago, wireless headphones were thought be just stuff of sci-fi movies and science fiction novels. But now, thanks to the advancement of technology, and the invention of Bluetooth wireless gadgets are a norm. Wireless headphones are more in vogue than any other wireless gadget on the market. With most companies cutting the cord, ditching the headphone jack and introducing wireless headphones with their flagship phones, they have become somewhat necessary. Therefore tech companies are budding heads trying to come up with the best ideas for wireless headphones and thinking about more and more new features that will help set their products apart from any other one on the market. Wireless headphones typically cost more than wired headphones, but hey they offer ease of mobility, no more tangles to deal with and I personally think they look a lot more stylish and modern. A good pair of wireless Bluetooth headphones can cost a fortune. This means that not everyone is able to afford to a pair. And we personally think that buying low quality ones just because they are cheap is not a very good idea because it won’t be long before they breakdown and you have to buy new ones. They come in a wide variety of styles, materials and of course prices.

In our quest for the best wireless headphones we have reviewed many of them, and we think we just might have found the perfect one.

Baseus is not a new name when we talk about top tech companies, especially the top tech companies which are known for putting out some of the best wireless gadgets on the market. Today we will be reviewing the Baseus D01 Stereo Bluetooth Headphones. These headphones are retailing for almost $23 which we think is nothing less than a bargain.

Contents of the box:

The Baseus Encok D01 headphones have very a very high end packaging and straight away, looking at the packaging you can tell that they are serious about the headphones and not here to play around but seriously compete. The headphones come in a huge box with a picture of the headphones on the front.

Inside the box you will find the wireless headphones along with two cables. One cable is for charging the headphones and the other find is a USB to audio headphone jack cable which is used for connecting the headphones to a laptop or computer and lastly you will find a user manual with instructions on how to use the product.

First Class Design:

The Baseus D01 are a very well built pair of headphones. They are made of ABS and aluminum alloy and finished with PC (plastic).

To provide comfort, the bridge has silica gel padding so that the headphones can rest on the top of your head without causing any discomfort.

The same goes for the faux leather ear cups; they are comfortable and do not cause any strain on the temples or the neck. The ear cups fit snuggly and thus act as a noise cancellation feature.

The headphones fit snuggly around all the contours of your head and around the ears. The silica gel padding on the bridge acts as a cushion between your head and the headphones thereby eliminating any chances of fatigue. The soft foam padding not only provides a soft fit, but it also actively cancels out any ambient external noise

The headphones have a stylish and modern design. They have a uniformly minimalistic design which is elegant at the same time. They come in three very trendy and eye catching colors, red, zircon and my favorite champagne gold.

On the bridge of the headphones is written “Baseus” in a bold black color.

On the right ear cup, just around the curve towards the bottom of the cup, is the power button, which also doubles as a button for answering and ending calls. Right above the power button are the volume buttons for lowering or raising the volume. The same volume buttons are used for changing the track.

Power and volume buttons

And lastly right below the power button is a micro USB port for connecting a wire (if you want to). The wire is used to connect to with its 3.5mm pluggable audio cable. Unlike most other headphones on the market, these are foldable thereby making it easy to place them in a bag and carry them around.

Usage and Top of the Line Performance:

When you first turn on the headphones, simply long press the power button. Bluetooth will go in to booting mode and a white light will flash for 2 seconds indicating the headphones are now ready for use.

To connect the headphones to your phone, simply enter the Bluetooth settings on your phone and you will see Baseus Encok D01 headphones in the list of devices available to connect with. Just connect by selecting the Baseus Encok D01 option and you are good to go.

To turn off the headphones, simply long press the power button. Bluetooth will go into shutdown mode and a red light will flash for 2 seconds indicating that the headphones have turned off.

Moving on to their performance, we found the sound quality of these Baseus wireless headphones to be very good and almost comparable to the sound quality of high-end headphones. The headphones have a frequency response rate of 20-20000Hz and we found that their EQ was good and listenable for long periods of time without causing strain on the ears. The highs came through crystal clear and the mids were generally fine. But when the volume is cranked up to full, the sound can become a bit daunting. Bass is weighty and can have some real slam to it, but you won’t find that same bloated level of bass here like you would in other manufacturers. Since the headphones do not support aptX they work fine with both Android and iOS devices. The headphones have the Bluetooth V4.2 version and therefore provide a connectivity range of 10 meters which is standard on most headphones and a pretty good range.

The headphones can be used for three purposes:

·       The first one is obviously to listen to music and or podcasts. You can switch between tracks using the same volume buttons. If you want to listen to the previous track, press the – button for 2 seconds. Similarly if you want to listen to the next track, just long press the + button for 2 seconds.

·       The headphones also have a built-in mic and thus can also be used to make and receive calls. To answer and hang up the calls, all you have to do is short press the power button. If you don’t feel like answering the call, long press the power button. And if you want to redial the last number, continuously press the power button.

·       Lastly, as mentioned before the headphones have a micro USB port which can be used to connect it to your computer via a 3.5mm audio cable. As soon as the headphones are connected to a laptop, they switch to e-sports mode.

When the headphones are running or being used, a white flashes as an indicator that they are currently turned on and under use.

Battery life:

The last aspect left to review is the ever so important battery life. Baseus D01 headphones have a 300mAh high capacity polymerized battery and they claim that the headphones have a run time of about 8 hours if you are listening to music (provided you crank the volume to only 70%) and a talk time of 10 hours. Their claim seemed to hold true for the period we reviewed the product in. The battery has a stand-by time of 40 hours and takes about 2 hours to charge completely. When the headphones are charging, a red light turns on as an indicator. When you plug it in first, the light will be bright. As its battery rechargers, the light will start fading in color and ultimately it will turn off indicating that the headphones are completely charged.

Charging light

Honestly on the run time on these headphones could have been a bit better i.e. at least 10 to 12 hours because most good quality headphones we have tested last an average of 10 hours per day with still some juice left in them.

What we like about the product:

The headphones are definitely an improvement considering the kinds of headphones other manufacturers are selling at this price point. The sturdy build quality and ergonomics of this product is guarantee enough that they will last you a very long time. The color range is great; there are 3 beautiful colors to choose from.  It has great sound quality which does not in any way put strain on the ears. The ear cups have a soft foam padding enclosed within a faux leather cover. This makes for a snug fit around the ears which is not too loose and not too tight, it’s just right. The snug fit also actively cancels out any unwanted external sounds. The micro USB port for connecting to computers and thereby converting the headphones to e-sports mode is a great new feature and we have not seen it before in any of the wireless Bluetooth headphones we have reviewed over the past.

What we didn’t like about the product:
We found that the headphones battery life is not very long. The average run time on this model is 8 hours where as we wished it last for at least 10 to 12 hours. The buttons for controlling the music can be a bit confusing and difficult to use especially in the beginning. The volume button for instance other than controlling the volume is also responsible for switching between music tracks. We found that while wearing the headphones, changing the tracks was somewhat an arduous process since you might accidently end up pressing the wrong buttons which we did (multiple times). This is not a very big issue and does not affect the performance of the headphones. It just takes some time for you to get used to the placement of the buttons.

Final Verdict:

All things considered, we think that Baseus Bluetooth stereo headphones are a really good investment if you are looking to buy something that is affordable and won't make dent in your savings but at the same time are good quality and long lasting. They are perfect if you travel a lot or suffer long commutes everyday to and from work or if you go for a run or a strenuous work out at the gym. They are good at cancelling out almost all external noise. We think that they are a must have for anyone looking to buy a good pair of wireless headphones.
